What I'm Liking Right Now...

Bishop Allen - Currently my favorite band. Better description to come when I manage to find some time. In the meantime just check out their website, www.bishopallen.com.

Bedouin Soundclash - I've been loving these guys' rootsie tunes. My favorite song of theirs is '12:59 Lullaby', but 'When The Night Feels My Song' off of Sounding Mosaic is pretty darned good too.

Sigur Ros - Hailing from Iceland this post-modern, alternative, and very eclectic rock band is one of my favorites. I first found them a few years ago after viewing Vanilla Sky. They had a few songs from the soundtrack that haunted me for weeks. I just couldn't get them out of my head. I had to track down the band whom made them because I wanted more. Sigur Ros employs various techniques combining the music into an almost orchestral sound, but unlike anything you've heard before. The language is, no, not English, but not Icelandic either. It's supposedly some phoenetic language similar to Icelandic. They are said to want the listener to interpret the meaning of the song for themselves. The concept sounds weird, but I agree, the words aren't important when the music is this good... why ruin it with silly lyrics. As a primer check out their album entitled Agaetis Byrjun - it's my favorite.

Ray Lamontagne - Soothing vocals and accoustic guitar makes this guy one of my favorite folk musicians. Check out "Jolene" on his album Trouble; it's my current favorite.

Anais Mitchell - Her music is amazing, and her lyrics are witty and from the heart. This is folk like you haven't heard it before. One of the most unique voices I've ever heard. I've been listening to her for months, and I just can't stop.

The Shins - Currently enjoying Chutes Too Narrow. They write great music; everything seems to gel well. Right now my favorite song is probably "Young Pilgrim," although "New Slang" from Oh, Inverted World is also nice.
